These dogs are very intelligent, playful and vivacious. They love to lick their owners’ faces and often follow them around, especially if there are strangers in the house. They have very fragile bones, and hence require very careful handling. These animals require balanced diet. Roasted, spicy or salted food can be harmful. Food must contain due amounts of carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and proteins as long as these dogs are more active than some people believe and require regular exercise and interaction.

Dogs of this breed are very affectionate, lively and graceful. They make excellent companion and lap dogs and therapy animals for the elderly and handicapped. These dogs adore their owners and become attached to them and serve as alarm dogs. The usual size for these dogs is 2-6 pounds, but there exist so-called teacup or miniature dogs that are occasionally born in the same litter with “normal” babies. There are two varieties of this breed in the USA: longcoats and smoothcoats. A chihuahua picture, poppy picture, and pictures of the breeding stock should be supplied by the breeder.
