The standard size for these dogs is 6-9 inches high at the withers, and weight is 2-6 pounds. These dogs are not intended for hard work or any special service, but can be excellent therapy dogs. They make perfect companions for the elderly and thrive on attention and interaction. They love their owners to the point of jealousy and can be very protective around them. The presence of a stranger can make them nervous, and they tend to be extremely dog-aggressive. They are scrappy with teasing children and should not be trusted with them.

Chihuahua Miniature Picture -
rescues, photos
This term is used to describe toy breed puppies that are smaller that others; it is not a separate strain of dogs. There may be puppies of different size in a litter, because some of them were conceived later and are not fully developed. They will remain small all of their life, but the majority of them are very weak and die even with the best care, because they are premature and may have hidden health problems. Such dogs should not be bred and require special vet care. A chihuahua miniature picture can sometimes be found on rescues in the photos section.
