Native to Mexico, Chihuahuas were known over 1000 years ago. The name of the breed comes from the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Affectionate and loyal dogs, Chihuahuas are popular pets in many countries. These dogs are also lively, bold, and quick moving. Lightly built, tiny dogs, Chihuahuas have a large rounded skull and big dark eyes. Their coat comes in two types, the smooth-coated and long-coated. Coat colors range from white to cream, sable, sand, blue to black. The average life span of the bred is 12-14 years.
